Ad 2 DC took home top awards at ADMERICA 2018 in the National Ad 2 Public Service, Club Achievement, and Club of Excellence competitions. ADMERICA is the American Advertising Federation’s national conference. Ad 2 DC is our local chapter of young advertising professionals, a collaborative community of passionate, forward-thinking, and motivated people who are making a difference.
In between consuming Chicago-style hot dogs and being inspired by this year’s ADDY Award winners, seven members of Ad 2 DC enjoyed ADMERICA 2018 in Chicago, along with hundreds of others from AAF and Ad 2 chapters across the nation.
Ad 2 DC Public Service Takes the Silver
Ad 2 DC earned second place in the 2018 Ad 2 National Public Service Competition. Public Service Co-Chairs Jesselle Macatiag and Corey Lipsey presented Ad 2 DC’s “Democracy is a Verb” campaign for Mikva Challenge DC, a nonprofit that develops youth to be empowered, informed, and active citizens who promote a just and equitable society. The campaign received donated media from Washingtonian Magazine, Capitol Communicator, WUSA9, Digilant, Media IQ, and others. Since the campaign, Mikva DC has added 52 new volunteers and increased their individual giving by 50% YOY.
Ad 2 DC has placed in the top spots for the last three years, winning first place in 2016 for its “Art Sparks” campaign for the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, and third place in 2017 for its “Pay It Forward” campaign for The Potter’s House.
Public service is a key part of Ad 2’s mission, and a great opportunity for members to get involved. Each year, Ad 2 chapters across the United States develop a fully integrated pro bono marketing and advertising campaign for a deserving nonprofit in their community. Ad 2 DC is currently assembling its committee for 2018-2019. If you are interested in participating in the next public service campaign, please contact email@example.com.
Plaques on Plaques on Plaques: Club Achievement and Club of Excellence
Ad 2 National specifies eight main pillars that guide the goals and programming of each club: Communications, Advertising Education, Government Relations, Diversity & Inclusion, Programs, Public Service, Membership Development, and Club Operations. Ad 2 DC earned top awards in six of these categories. In addition, Ad 2 National holds a Club of Excellence Competition each year, and Ad 2 DC tied with Ad 2 Dallas for this year’s Most Excellent Club. We’ve won this award two years in a row!
A highlight of ADMERICA is always the American Advertising Awards – the nation’s top award show for the advertising industry. Attendees enjoyed an incredible food spread while perusing the winning work, which was hung up on gallery walls. In addition to the requisite Super Bowl and TV ads, the ADDYs also recognized talent in unique categories such as copywriting, cinematography, direct mail, website, augmented reality, and more. Ad 2 DC especially enjoyed emotionally powerful ads, such as UPS’s Wishes Delivered (not a dry eye in the house for these ones!), the potent National Down Syndrome Society video, and P&G’s The Talk. There were also extremely high-quality student ads, like this spec ad for Orkin.
Jacqui Balogh, 2017-2018 Ad 2 DC President, said, “It was an incredible experience to be sitting in the audience, watching these amazing ads we’ve seen on TV (and lots of others I hadn’t) and knowing that the people sitting next to you were the creative brains behind it all!” Check out the full list of ADDY Award winners here.
After an amazing time in Chi-town, Ad 2 DC is already looking forward to a sunny ADMERICA 2019 in Hollywood Beach, Florida!
