Ad 2 DC won an award in the National Ad 2 Public Service Competition for the second year in a row and returned with two other top national recognitions.
Six members of Ad 2 DC traveled to New Orleans for Admerica 2017 to meet with hundreds of AAF and Ad 2 leaders from across the United States to attend the 2017 American Advertising Awards (aka “the Oscars of Advertising”). In addition to indulging in some delicious beignets from Cafe du Monde and parading down Bourbon Street for NOLA Pride, Ad 2 DC earned acclaim in three impressive ways.
Success in Public Service
Ad 2 DC tied with Ad 2 Oklahoma City for third place in the Ad 2 National Public Service Competition. Ad 2 DC was the defending champion: In 2016, its effective campaign for the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop won first place.
Public Service Co-Chairs Karmen Fox and Nathan Forman presented Ad 2 DC’s “Pay It Forward” campaign for The Potter’s House, which received donated media from NBC4, ABC7/News Channel 8, iheartradio, El Tiempo Latino, the DCist, Digilant, Rocketfuel and others. The campaign has already helped The Potter’s House raise more than $6,000 in donations to their Pay It Forward program, which helps neighbors in Adams Morgan afford a good meal at The Potter’s House regardless of their ability to pay.
Each year, Ad 2 chapters across the nation develop a fully integrated pro-bono marketing and advertising campaign for a local nonprofit. Giving back through public service is a core benefit of membership, and Ad 2 DC is incredibly proud of the dedicated, hardworking young leaders who are part of the Public Service Committee. Ad 2 DC is currently building its committee for 2017-2018. If you are interested in participating in Ad 2 DC’s next public service campaign, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Nation’s Most Excellent Club
Ad 2 National also holds a Club of Excellence Competition, which challenges clubs to go above and beyond baseline operations by getting involved at their AAF district level and participating in Ad 2 National leadership conferences.
This year, Ad 2 DC had the special honor of being recognized as the nation’s Most Excellent Club. In fact, Ad 2 DC is the only club in recent memory to achieve a perfect score in this competition. This prestigious title also comes with a $500 stipend, which will help to fund even better programming for Ad 2 DC!
DC Brings Home a New Ad 2 National Leader
There’s going to be a familiar face at Admerica for the next four years. Katie Dirks, 2016-2017 Chair of Ad 2 DC, was elected to the Ad 2 National Executive Committee. Her four-year commitment will culminate in her becoming Chair of Ad 2 National’s 20+ clubs nationwide and a voting member on AAF’s Executive Committee.
Dirks’ election is a great opportunity for members of Ad 2 DC. She’ll serve as a conduit for Ad 2 networking across the nation, a resource and mentor for public service and unique programming, and a direct line to Ad 2 and AAF National leadership. We’re thrilled to have a newly elected National Leader right here at home. Congratulations, Katie!
The new Ad 2 DC Steering Committee will take the helm for the 2017-2018 term on July 1. If this year is any indication, Admerica 2018 is going to be another great celebration for Ad 2 DC. See you in Chicago!
