Advertising is intertwined with our culture. AAF DC will trumpet that connection at our local ADDY Award competition—ADCHELLA. We’re going to blend a music festival with the excitement of a contest and you’ll be in the thick of it!
Last year’s competition burst forth with an Advolution theme, with cultural icons from the past 50 years. For 2017, the members of the awards committee (Amy Ballard, Jacqui Balogh, Kaila Brosey, Gretchen Carswell and Erin Flior) wanted an equally fun approach.
Hal Schild (Senior VP, Creative Services at the integrated marketing agency PCI) was camping out at the Desert Trip festival when the idea struck him like a power chord: “We can capture this vibe and carry it into the Newseum for our event.” Hal brought that thought to the awards committee to brainstorm and thus ADCHELLA was born.
Bring on the fun
If you’ve never been to our ADDY celebrations, you’ll be surprised by how fun they are. If you’re a party veteran, you already know how exciting it is to be at the show, see the ADDY-winning work displayed and mingle with 350 of your peers.
Since PCI has vast experience in making events entertaining, you’ll be engaged throughout the evening. To enhance the festival theme, we’ll be handing out t-shirts to all attendees. You won’t be served a drink unless you’re wearing an ADCHELLA shirt, so expect to add it to your outfit. (Decorations are optional.)
The event will have live music but the band has not yet been determined. “We offered Bob Dylan an award if he would attend, but he said he had other plans that night,” according to Schild. “Mick Jagger also declined, saying he has a newborn in the house and wasn’t getting any sleep. Anyone have an email for ABBA?”
Enter now, while you’re thinking about it
If you think your work sings, submit it for an ADDY Award. The final deadline is January 20. It’s an honor to be judged against your peers, and creative directors from all over the country will be checking out your work to pick the best of the best.
Don’t hide your light under a bushel. It’s time to shine!
